Although Cris “Cyborg” Justino has gone through hell to make 140 pounds for her two, UFC appearances, the Brazilian star she’s willing to make the drop again…
“Cyborg” fought Lina Lansberg on Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 95, and proceeded to finish the decorated kickboxer in round two. Fight week was dominated by headlines tied to “Cyborg’s” weight cut, however, after she reported she was 165 pounds on last Monday morning. Saturday’s bout was at 140 pounds. In May, a video was posted documenting “Cyborg’s” drop to 140 to face Leslie Smith, and that cut was also a brutal one for the Invicta featherweight champ.
Well, despite everything she has to go through to make 140, Justino reported this after Saturday’s win (quote via Yahoo Sports):
“I never pick my opponents. I always let them pick the opponents for me, so anyone in the top ten at 135 that wants to fight at 140 (I’ll fight), (but) I can’t make 135,” said “Cyborg”.
“I know they won’t want to make 145, so I’ll do my sacrifice. I’ll cry to make 140.”
Wow. It will be interesting to see if Dana White decides to change his stance on this, and create a women’s featherweight division. Just recently the UFC President said no plans were in the works to do this. But, it does seem like more-and-more fans are calling on the UFC to create a 145 division. Joe Rogan has also publicly campaigned to the UFC to do so. “Cyborg” certainly appears to be a draw, just as Ronda Rousey was, when the UFC elected to start promoting women’s fights.
