Renan Barao is coming off consecutive losses to TJ Dillashaw and Jeremy Stephens, but according to the former 135 champ, a lot of folks believe he in fact defeated “Lil Heathen”.
Barao faced Stephens this past May at UFC FN 88, and after three, thrilling rounds, the latter was awarded the UD win. Well, Barao is preparing to face Phillipe Nover this Saturday at UFC FN 95. Recently the Brazilian star spoke to the UFC, and while doing so, Barao had this to say about the bout with Stephens:
“It was a tough fight, a great fight,” Barao said. “However, not only me, but many people think I won the fight.”
Stephens’ boosters, and a lot of others, however, would disagree. That aside, it will be interesting to see how Barao looks in his second bout at 145. For years, the Nova Uniao was not only one of the best 135’ers on the planet, he was one of the best fighters, period.
“…Back then, the weight loss was exhausting for me and I was not having a good recovery. This time, being 145 pounds is pretty quiet for me, without suffering. I only train and think about the fight. That, to me, was a big difference.”
If you’re curious, Nover is a sizeable underdog for the fight, in the +300 to +375 range…
UFC FN 95 will go down in Brasilia, Brazil.
