If Cris “Cyborg” can’t make weight for her scrap with Lina Lansberg on Saturday, it sounds like the latter isn’t too interested in reaching a new agreement, so the bout can down.
“Cyborg” is booked to fight Lansberg in the headliner of UFC Fight Night 95, which will take place in Brasilia, Brazil. All week headlines have been dominated by discussions about “Cyborg’s” weight, since she reported on Monday that she woke up at 165 pounds. The fight is contracted for a catch-weight of 140.
Well, during the pre-fight media day, Lansberg was understandably asked if she’d still be willing to fight “Cyborg”, if the latter can’t make weight. The decorated striker stated (quote via MMA Junkie.com):
“We are both professionals and we have signed a contract at 140 pounds,” Lansberg said. “And she has already been given 140 instead of 135, and we all have to remember the UFC weight is 135, and she’s the only one fighting above it. I’m fighting at 135 as well, and the contract is 140, so I do expect her to make weight, and I’ll fight at 140 and nothing else.”
When Lansberg was asked whether she’s certain she wouldn’t fight under those circumstances, the Swedish fighter said “No, probably I won’t, no”.
It will be interesting to see what happens. Considering this is the headliner, one would think the UFC will take extra steps to make sure the fight goes through, if in fact, “Cyborg” doesn’t make weight. Of course, if she comes in way over…well, we could have a new main event,
