If back in 2014, you told someone that within two years the name Renan Barao wouldn’t appear on the UFC’s rankings, a mighty scoff would have been sent your way.
It wasn’t long ago, really, that Barao was widely considered to be one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world. In fact, at one stage, some folks cited the former bantamweight champ as the best fighter in the game.
Well, as a result of two losses to TJ Dillashaw, a move to 145, and a defeat versus Jeremy Stephens, Barao isn’t a top 15 ranked fighter. Crazy.
The Brazilian star will be looking to get back on track this Saturday against Phillipe Nover, who he’ll battle in the co-headliner of UFC Fight Night 95. Recently Barao spoke to UFC cameras about his decision to move to 145, and what he thinks of Nover’s abilities. You can check it out below.
Nover is coming off a split decision loss to Zubaira Tukhugov in December, 2015, after he decisioned Yui Chul Nam last May.
UFC FN 95 will be headlined by a 140 pound, catchweight bout between Lina Lansberg and Cris “Cyborg”. The card will go down in Brasilia, Brazil.
