After Overeem was put away by Miocic’s punches in last night’s headliner, he claimed to UFC commentator Joe Rogan that the champ had tapped to his guillotine. The replay, however, didn’t seem to show that happening.
Not surprisingly, Miocic was asked about Overem’s claim while speaking to FOX Sports 1 after his win. The Cleveland star stated (quote via FOX Sports 1 press release):
“I wasn’t even close to tapping out. He let go. I don’t understand how he even thinks that.”
It will be interesting to see if the ‘internet’ uncovers any new angle / footage that backs up Overeem’s claim. All that aside, it will be interesting to see who the UFC taps to face Miocic next. Since Cain Velasquez is coming off an electrifying, stoppage win over Travis Browne, and was booked for a title shot earlier this year, a lot of people believe the former champ will be next.
When Miocic was asked about his next opponent, however, the heavy handed fighter stated:
“I’m not a picker. I’m going to keep the belt for a long time.”
Fair enough. Odds are it’s going to be Velasquez, as Werdum’s win over Browne last night wasn’t as clear cut, and Miocic KO’d him in the opening round back in May.
