The prelims for UFC 203 are underway in Cleveland, Ohio, and some of the fights scheduled for that portion of the card include Bethe Correia vs. Jessica Eye, Nik Lentz vs. Michael McBride and Caio Magalhaes vs. Brad Tavares.
Let’s get to the action.
Fight Pass Bout
Yancy Medeiros def. Sean Spencer via submission (rear-naked-choke) R2, 0:49
Drew Dober vs. Jason Gonzalez
Dober came out pressuring Gonzalez from the get go. After the bout was momentarily halted, due to a low blow that Gonzalez took, Dober finished him off with a vicious series of punches. Perhaps Gonzalez didn’t take long enough? Either way, highlight reel win for Dober.
Drew Dober def. Jason Gonzalez via TKO (punches) R1, 1:45
Nik Lentz vs. Michael McBride
As has been the case in many of his bout previously, the wrestling and grappling game of Lentz ruled the day. McBride, who took the bout on short notice, put up a spirited effort. But ultimately Lentz took him out with ground-and-pound strikes in round two.
Nik Lentz def. Michael McBride via TKO (punches) R2, 4:17
Caio Magalhaes vs. Brad Tavares
Both middleweights threw heavy punches throughout the bout, but Magalhaes was clearly looking to take the fight to the mat. The defensive wrestling of Tavares won out for the most part, however, and he managed to out strike Magalhaes for the decision win.
Brad Tavares def. Caio Magalhaes via split decision (28-29, 30-27, 29-28)
Bethe Correia vs. Jessica Eye
As most expected would be the case, the bout was primarily a kickboxing match, as both women were more than content to let their fists fly. Eye appeared to land a bit more often than Correia, but after the bout, the latter was awarded the split decision win. The Cleveland fans didn’t care for the decision….Eye is from the Ohio city.
Bethe Correia def. Jessica Eye via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
