A few weeks out from UFC 202, there was a narrative circulating that there didn’t seem to be as much for Nate Diaz – Conor McGregor II, compared to their first scrap in March. Well, it looks like that theory was a wee bit off base.
According to a new report from MMA Fighting.com, sources have informed the outlet that it’s currently estimated UFC 202 sold 1.65 million pay-per-view buys. If that estimate is accurate, that would make UFC 202 the top selling, PPV card ever for the promotion. UFC 196, which featured Diaz – McGregor 1, is believed to have had the previous record at 1.6 million PPV buys.
So, there you have it. Obviously McGregor is still a massive draw, even though he was defeated by Diaz in March. Of course, it’s also quite clear that Diaz’s star power has never been greater.
McGregor won the August 20th rematch via unanimous decision.
