For sometime now, Alvarez has argued that McGregor isn’t nearly as good, as he, or his boosters say he is. Prior to UFC 202, Alvarez also said that he wanted to face the winner of Nate Diaz – McGregor II. So, now that the latter has avenged his defeat to Diaz, there’s a lot of talk about whether McGregor could be booked for a scrap with Alvarez.
Well, recently Bisping was asked to weigh-in on the proposed match-up, while speaking to the Daily Star. Here is what the middleweight champ had to say:
“I think looking at that last fight, he does not want to fight Eddie Alvarez at 155,” said Bisping, while referring to Alvarez’s stoppage win over Rafael dos Anjos, which landed him the lightweight title.
“I think Alvarez kills him man. He’ll just take him down and destroy him.”
There you have it. Now, there’s certainly more than a few people who believe that fighters with solid wrestling skills, and heavy hands, could give McGregor some serious trouble. That description fits Alvarez; no question. But would the lightweight champ “destroy” McGregor? As Bisping argued? Hopefully we get to find out at some point.
It remains to be seen what’s next for McGregor. UFC boss man Dana White has made it clear that he thinks McGregor should return to 145 and defend the belt versus Jose Aldo.
Bisping, meanwhile, is booked to fight Dan Henderson on October 8th.
