Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic wants the whole world to know that he is far from done. After losing two consecutive fights for the first time in his illustrious MMA career, Mirko is making a comeback. Cro Cop is making all the necessary changes to ensure that in 2008 we’re going to see the resurgence of the man who once struck fear down the spines of his opponents with his patented left head kick. After losing to both Gabriel Gonzaga and Cheik Kongo, Mirko realized that he was easily being overpowered by his larger opponents, particularly in the clinch. In an article by Croatian website, Vecernji List, Cro Cop said:
“I want to increase my weight from 100 to 105 kilograms. In my fights against Gonzaga and Kongo I realized how important this is because I was being out-powered by my heavier opponents. I’m going to work on gaining the weight in increments to prevent myself from losing speed.”
As we reported earlier, Mirko plans on returning to the Octagon in 2008. More specifically, Cro Cop told Vecernji List that he would like fight in February of 2008. Surprisingly, his first opponent of choice is Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira. With yesterday’s shocking news of Randy Couture, vacating the Heavyweight title, the UFC is likely trying to find a new champion quickly. Since Nogueira is highly expected to be in contention for that belt, it is unlikely that Mirko’s first opponent will actually be Nogueira.
Regardless of who his first opponent is, the entire MMA world is mighty glad that Cro Cop has not lost his will to fight yet. As Cro Cop tells Vecernji List:
“There are many people who doubt me, but I’m determined to prove them wrong.”
