It continues to look like Jon Jones will be back in the Octagon a lot sooner than many expected, but Jimi Manuwa clearly doesn’t want to see the former champ return to a title shot.
Jones was axed from a July 9th rematch with Daniel Cormier, just a couple of days out from UFC 200, after he was flagged for banned substances by USADA. More recently, however, Jones has reported that he’ll back soon, and Dana White has also said that it looks like “Bones” “did not take the drug everybody thought he took.”
Not only that, but just this week, it was reported that the substances Jones allegedly tested positive for are “specified substances”, and that USADA has a one year, maximum suspension for them (although the Nevada Commission could implement a longer suspension).
Well, recently Manuwa spoke with FloCombat, and while doing so, the light-heavyweight said he wants to see Anthony Johnson fight Cormier next. The British fighter also discussed Jones, and here is some of what he had to say:
“I’m not sure about this Jon Jones business,” Manuwa said. “I think it’s dodgy, all this stuff Jon Jones did–I think it’s all dodgy mate. I think that the UFC want their bloody cash cow back. I’m not going to say too much on that but I think it’s dodgy.
“I don’t know what I’d do with him. If you want a clean sport you can’t have cheaters coming back. If you are cheating then you are cheating. That’s what I personally think…”
Wow. Those comments likely aren’t going to sit well with Jones or the UFC brass…Manuwa hasn’t fought now since September, 2015, when he was taken out by the aforementioned Johnson. He’s booked to fight Ovince Saint Preux on October 8th at UFC 204. That fight should be a doozy.
