Mirko “Cro Cop” To Return in 2008

In today’s publication of Sportske Novosti, a Croatian sports daily, Dana White confirmed that Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic will make his return to the octagon in 2008. An actual opponent has not been determined yet, but in the eyes of White, the UFC’s Heavyweight division is extremely stacked now so they’re all dangerous opponents. In a recent discussion, Mirko admitted to Dana that he had lost his focus to fight some time ago. As White states:

“Mirko admitted to me that he lost his mental focus a while ago. He made it obvious that he wasn’t satisfied with his performance in few of his last fights. He had some sort surgery to his nose and he told me, no he guaranteed me that he will be back in full shape.”

Hopefully Mirko can find that hunger that once earned him a spot atop the Heavyweight division. We all know he certainly possesses all the skills in the world to hang with the likes all the top heavyweights. At least all the signs are pointing in the right direction. “Cro Cop” has been making some decisions as of late that clearly show he intends on taking another serious run at the UFC. His first step was correcting a deviated septum which was blocking the passage of air to his nose. Then he went out and got himself a full sized octagon. Mirko claims that he one he had before was too small at it threw off his ability to measure the distancing before setting up his renowned left head kick. With all that said and done, it is likely, or at the very least hopeful, we’ll see a hungry “Cro Cop” resurface in 2008.

Does anyone think he could drop to 205? I don’t know what his day to day weight is, but he could probably match up better with some of the 205 pounders.

I think he can drop to 205, but he doesn’t want to. It’s the same situation with Vera. Both would benefit by dropping a weight class. Cro Cop said that “there is no room for me to go down.” I think those were the words he used when he was asked of the possibility of dropping to Light Heavyweight.

i hope cro cop can find is best in the ufc.no doubt he is a great striker but hasnt looked good in the ufc.

  • Billy Gamble says:

I think he could drop down. They pretty much all could except for a couple of them.

  • shay says:

I personally think he could make the weight. The only problem I would have with it would be a loss in muscle mass because he appeared to be in very good shape during his last fight with Kongo. He already looks lean and there is only so much fat he has to cut.

  • SCOTCHYDOW says:

I think if he trains for the way fighters fight in the UFC, he may become the force he once was. If he can add ground and pound, he would be scarry again. Brandon Vera has made it clear that he plans on dropping weight class sometime. Let’s see how well he does against Sylvia, then we will know if he can hang in the Heavyweight division.

Cro cop should drop to 205… but i dont think it will happen. I think crocop will begin to re-establish himself soon. he needs something to relight the fire.

Actually guys I heard he’s going the “other way”. I heard Mirko is trying to bulk up to 232 lbs.

Cro Cop is in a tough spot in terms of size. He’s small for a HW but at the same time cutting down to 205 is tough for him (check out how large his legs are).
