Glover Teixeira will throw hands with one of the most terrifying and dangerous fighters in the game tonight at UFC 202, but the light-heavyweight contender says he’s not intimidated by any man…
Of course, the man Teixeira is fighting is Anthony “Rumble” Johnson, who has a pretty, well documented record of trashing opponents. Case in point, since Johnson returned to the UFC in 2014, he’s gone 5-1, and scored stoppages in four of those fights. During that time the ridiculously powerful fighter has taken out names like Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Ryan Bader and Alexander Gustafsson.
Well, on the most recent “UFC Tonight“, Teixeira was asked to weigh-in on Johnson’s power, and whether he’s intimidated by any competitor. Here is some of what the Brazilian fighter had to say (quote via FOX Sports 1 press release):
“You just have to watch out. He’s a very dangerous fighter. The punch that hurts the most is the one that you don’t see. I just have to pressure him, like you did, Cormier.”
“I’m not intimidated by any fighter. We all respect each other. Me and Anthony talked backstage today. It doesn’t matter how nice you are, the day of the fight I’m going to try to take his head off, and he’s going to do the same thing.”
There you go. Of course, when you, yourself, hit like a truck, have a very solid chin, and are a BJJ Black Belt, your confidence probably isn’t shaken too easily.
And that’s why this fight has the potential to be pretty, pretty, entertaining (and short). Teixeira is riding a three fight winning streak, and has finished Ovince Saint Preux, Patrick Cummins and Rashad Evans during that stretch. The winner could very well lock up a title shot.
UFC 202 will be hosted by the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
