Story and Cerrone are booked to scrap on Saturday, in what is one of the card’s most interesting / promising match-ups. Cerrone, of course, is one of the UFC’s top lightweights, who has been fighting at 170 more recently, and has won two straight. Most recently, “Cowboy” took out Patrick Cote, which is ridiculously hard to do.
Story, on the other hand, has won three in a row, and remains one of the welterweight division’s toughest outs. In his last bout, Story decisioned former Strikeforce champ, Tarec Saffiedine. The rugged fighter is currently ranked #9 at 170, while Cerrone is sitting in the #14 spot.
Recently Story spoke to MMA Junkie.com about the upcoming match-up, and the fighter made it clear he has no beef with Cerrone. While discussing the bout, and how he plans to approach “Cowboy”, Story stated:
“When they said, ‘Cowboy,’ I was like, ‘Oh, that’s awesome,’” Story said. “He likes to bring it, and he doesn’t do super good with pressure or people that put pressure on him. I’m going to be putting pressure on him.
“He’s got a huge fanbase. He’s got a cool personality, and after the fight, I’ll probably share a beer with him.”
Cerrone certainly had trouble dealing with the pressure that Rafael dos Anjos brought, but RDA is only man to defeat him since 2013. So, it will be interesting to see how this fight unfolds. If Cerrone can score another victory, then the popular fighter could be one or two big wins out from a title shot. Getting through Story, however, won’t be easy.
