2016 has yet to include a bout with Ronda Rousey, and increasingly it looks like the superstar won’t be back in the Octagon until 2017…
If you follow Rousey, then you know that originally, the plan was to have her compete this past summer. Following her devastating KO loss to Holly Holm last November, Rousey was expected to fight again at UFC 200 last month.
But, Rousey requested more time off to accommodate an acting gig, and since then, there’s been speculation that she might fight at the UFC’s first card in New York City, November 12th. Well, as September nears, there’s been no word from Rousey’s camp about her fighting. Recently veteran journalist, Dave Meltzer, told Submission Radio this (quote via MMA Mania.com):
“I talked to one of her friends a couple of weeks ago,” Meltzer said. “And the impression that I got — you know, we don’t usually talk Ronda Rousey business — but I just go, ‘what’s your thoughts? Is Ronda gonna be ready to fight at the garden?’ And they said, ‘no, probably early 2017.’ So that was the impression I was given two weeks ago”.
Really, this shouldn’t come as a surprise, as it has been very quiet, in terms of what’s next for the former bantamweight champ.
Of course, this report may prompt more folks to wonder if the 29 year-old star will in fact fight again. But, really, until we get into mid 2017 and Rousey still hasn’t fought, predictions like that are likely premature. The Judoka has said several times she intends to return to the cage.
