Since Garbrandt is a member of Team Alpha Male, and a buddy of Cruz’s rival, Urijah Faber, the two have traded words in the past. But, following Garbrandt’s quick, stoppage win over fellow prospect Thomas Almeida, Cruz has targeted “No Love” more frequently (although, to be fair, it’s because he’s asked about Garbrandt more often).
Well, recently Cruz said that Garbrandt has incurred concussions in the past, and that he’ll add to that list. The 9-0 fighter didn’t care for the comments, and recently Garbrandt told MMA Junkie.com the following:
“He said he’s going to add to my concussion list,” Garbrandt said. “That says to me like he’s going to try to go in there and kill me. He wants to do that, so I’m definitely going to make him eat every one of his words. He’s going to be eating through a straw for a couple of months after we fight.”
So ya. Things are clearly getting pretty nasty between the two. The question is, however, will Garbrandt get a title shot if he defeats Mizugaki at UFC 202?
Garbrandt is currently ranked #8 and Mizugaki is #11, so, from a ranking’s perspective, a victory might not do it. Especially with the likes of TJ Dillashaw and Bryan Caraway ahead of him.
But, Mizugaki is no joke. So if Garbrandt can score a big KO win, then you never know. Cruz – Garbrandt is certainly a fight a lot of people want to see.
