Recently Dana White relayed that Stephen Thompson will challenge for the welterweight title, but the new welterweight champ Tyron Woodley claims that’s news to him…
If you’ve been following Woodley and the welterweight title picture over the last few months, then you know that Mr. Thompson has been irritating the Strikeforce vet. After Thompson took out Johny Hendricks, he argued that he, and not Woodley, should fight Robbie Lawler next. Then, prior to Woodley’s KO win over Lawler last month, Thompson predicted that the latter would get by “The Chosen One”.
Well, now that Woodley is the welterweight king, he’s made it clear he wants a big money fight with Georges St-Pierre. Woodley’s said Thompson can wait. Following White’s comments that Thompson would challenge for the title next, Woodley apparently tweeted out this:
Funny how there is an official fight announced and I 1) Havent spoken to anyone 2) Agreed on opponent or date 3) Signed a bout agreement.

Now does this mean Woodley – Thompson isn’t going to happen? No. But one could conclude that Woodley isn’t happy about the fact the promotion hasn’t contacted him, regarding his next bout.
Considering GSP has not reached a new deal with the UFC, and the ridiculous run Thompson’s been on, it’s hard to imagine another fight materializing no?
