“Rampage” Inks New Deal; Liddell Passes Drug Test

Posted by Kris Karkoski on Mar 26, 2007 at 10:17 am ET4 Comments

The LA Times has an article that contains a few interesting stories. Here’s the first clip:

“…less than four months after Jackson joined UFC, he’s getting his shot to take Liddell’s belt. UFC will officially announce today that the fighters have signed contracts to headline a May 26 pay-per-view card, UFC 71, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

“I’m ready, for sure,” Liddell said. “I’m at the top of my game, and I’ve been looking forward to this fight for a long time. I should’ve never lost the first time. It won’t happen again.”

Jackson hadn’t planned on fighting Liddell so quickly in his UFC career, but his manager said UFC President Dana White tore up their prior contract and offered a new four-fight deal that will begin with this title fight.”

There are a few interesting points in there. The most interesting is that Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has in fact signed a new 4 fight contract with the UFC meaning he will be in the promotion for quite a while longer. Before this deal was signed it was not known how long Jackson would stay in the UFC because it was believed he only had a few fights left on his previous contract so this deal ensures that should he win the belt we are gauranteed to see him defend it several times.

Also, the article states that the UFC will announce the fight between Jackson and current champ Chuck Liddell.

Chuck Liddell’s appearance on TV while on sleeping pills is also mentioned, stating that he has passed drug tests confirming his story:

“Following the rambling, often incoherent discussion, Liddell said he was ordered off the promotional road by UFC President Dana White, and was subsequently subjected to a random drug test by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Keith Kizer, executive officer of the Nevada State Athletic Commission, said Liddell passed the drug test.

“He’s been tested several times and has never ran afoul of our tests,” Kizer said. “Chuck was in a weird state on that show. I don’t blame people for being concerned about him, but he silenced his critics.”

It’s good to hear that all the details for this event have been ironed iut and bith fighters should be ready to put on a great fight on May 26th at UFC 71.

Rampage is going to hurt Chuck you just watch. The champs gonna crumble under Rampage’s strength. The only time I’ve ever seen fear in Liddell’s eyes was Pride 2003 when Rampage destroyed him.

Boy I dunno whod win this one its a tough call..I mean look at george st peire who just got beat . i was shocked when i heard george lost the title to basically a nobody. that fight was like buster douglas whoopn mike tyson no one even seen it coming.

course the thing bout the ufc is never say never anyone can lose there belt at any second. but we do know chuck has gotten a lot better he defeated randy. and took out jermey horn , and to tell the truth i didnt think he would be able to beat jermey horn…….

so the question is who will win chuck or rampage…. everyone can go back and forth and pick but we wont know till that day comes and they fight…….cause its very possible it could be another 60 second over hyped fight and chuck knock him out first round in 60 seconds but who knows…….I do know one thing though rampage can do something that nither randy ,horn or babalou could do rampage knows how to use his fists….
then again if chuck hits just right its sleepy time for his oponent…….

but i know one thing wether the match ends up being one badass fight or ends up being a 30 second peice of crap…im lookn forward to it

Rampage is going to destroy liddell once again!!!
Rampage has equal striking, sprawling, and slams, Liddell has no slams and no wrestling ability. Liddell hit Rampage in their first bout and the strikes didnt faze Rampage, but when Rampage hit Liddell, Liddell was knocked back a couple feet. Rampage has a superior uppercut and strength. All my money is on Rampage!!!!!!!!!!!!!
