Yes, if you told someone at the beginning of 2016 that Bisping would be the middleweight champ by June 5th, chances are a mighty scoff would have been returned. There’s no question that Bisping has long been regarded as one of the toughest outs in the middleweight division, but few people were predicting he’d defeat Luke Rockhold at UFC 199. After all, the latter did defeat the British star back in 2014.
Well, Bisping rocked the MMA world by bombing out Rockhold, and now he’ll face Dan Henderson in his first title defense. Recently Weidman appeared on “The MMA Hour”, and while doing so, he sent Bisping this verbal shot (quote via MMA Fighting.com):
“There’s a chance he’s beating Dan Henderson, but I don’t think there’s much of a chance he’s beating anybody else in the top-five,” Weidman said. “But he’s the champ after winning and holding the belt, so that’s definitely surreal. To walk around and people ask me who the champion is in my weight class and I have to say Michael Bisping, it’s a little embarrassing, but that’s just the way it goes.”
Guess we’ll see what happens. Although many believe Bisping will be in tough against any of the top five contenders, like Weidman said, the new champ has showcased some pretty nasty boxing skills as of late.
Bisping – Henderson II will take place on October 8th in Manchester, England.
