I like the idea of the UFC in the theaters but it seems to me that piracy would be a bigger issue than normal.

    “Chips and beer?!”
I wish I could get off that easy when my crew comes calling on fight night :)

Also, its a genius move to have fighters work various theatres in different cities, “hosting” theatre parties and such.
As people have brought up repeatedly, there are some drawbacks to leaving the comfort of your home to go peep an event, such as beerlessness, but part of that inconvenience could be set off by getting to hang with the Iceman or Stephan Bonnar before, during, and after an event, getting a picture and one of them to sign your tee or rashguard, doing a little Q&A, and maybe getting them to leave your outgoing voicemail or something…

Chips and beer are during the fights. We usually throw down a badass cookout before the fights start. Was surprised they didn’t set-up for either Couture/Leben/Quarry/Sonnen to host here in Oregon.

Well we all cant have friends who are amazing chefs like you Jcohl, so we have to get by with beer and chips (or bbq in my case). I have recently became a homebrewer so i get to use my hommies as test rats for my beer and see if they like what i brew. The disadvantage is they dont have a palate for good Beer (they like that generic pilsner Macro brew crap) so its hard to tell if they really like my brew or not. Advantage though is if im lazy and didnt brew a batch for a paticular fight night (which is going to be the case for some of these many upcoming events) i get to buy a growler of some Stone Brew and non of them want any.

But getting back on toppic, having fighters host these events is a very good way to draw a crowd to these events have have them become successful. Zuffa probably will make way more money if this becomes a trend.

I was just goofing about the “chips and beer” thing, although I appreciate the compliment about being an “amazing” chef.
All I can say is that right now I’m glad to be amazingly busy, because in this economy I know a lot of crews that aren’t working at all, or working so infrequently they have to hold 2 or 3 other jobs to pay their bills.
And I’m always glad to read what other people are doing to feed their guests during PPVs. so head over to the forum and look for the food threads…
        :)

$20 a ticket? That makes no sense. Make it $10 and add beer and it will catch on. Throw in a few concession stands and it’s complete. I’ve mentioned a billion times how I saw UFC 100 in HD at Radio City and LOVED it. My brother and I went round for round (drinks that is!) and had a blast. My only TINY complaint was that the only souvenirs you could get were UFC. I wanted the buy a fighter’s shirt and they weren’t available. (No MMAFrenzy shirts, either! HAHA)

      GARRULE,

Nice points BUT a downside to allowing beer at the theatre for UFC events is that in doing so, the UFC will be alienating the younger audience who then would not be allowed to attend the event at the theatre. Hua?

Honestly I’m sick of seeing kids at these events. The one great thing about boxing and vegas was it was an adult activity. Now it is morons who bring their kids – and ruin it for the rest of us. Ask anyone who works in vegas, and they’ll tell you that even with the lowly state of boxing, it still brings in a better quality crowd, where UFC is way down market … you know the folks who have kids but don’t have the good sense about how to raise them.

MMA is violence. There is a reason movies have a rating system – for fake violence – because kids don’t fully understand and process the implications.

But I guess you can’t account for bad parents …

  • GarRule says:

I dunno…you could buy beer at any other sporting event, right? I wonder if there will be a rating applied to the fights, i.e. “no one under 17 admitted without an adult”. I know violence is a major consideration for the Motion Picture Association of America. Do you think a UFC fight is rated R??

    • Will says:

Rating is PG-13 and they cannot put beer in a theater unless they have a liquor license and some states require additional licensing. As well as any employee serving alcohol, must be over the age of 18. Those are the main issues, not to mention the liability factor that could come into play. People have been sneaking alcohol into events since the days of the Colosseum, pretty sure many folks will be packing flasks.

    Dont go beerless….

Make your woman bring her biggest purse (except call it a “bag”, she will be impressed with your understanding of purse lingo).

Go to a good liquor store that has a beer selection beyond Bud/Coors/Miller. Look for an IPA (India Pale Ale) or something with more alcohol. A decent IPA is about the equivalent of 2 “normal” beers so dont scoff too much at the price and buy 1/2 as many as you normally would.

Personally, I would look for MODUS HOPERANDI. Its in a green CAN and its an amazingly wonderful IPA. The can is nice because bottles rattle and cans fit better for the next step.

Now…here is the complicated part (apparently?) Have your woman open her purse and put said beer into the purse! Viola!

    • Brent says:

Only problem with that is good beer (like an IPA) should always be dranken (dont know if thats an actual word) out of a glass.

      • DigYourOwnHole says:

        <>

You are right. It should be. Even crappy beer should be. You can always sneak one of those in also, but in a pinch, I will drink out of the bottle/can.

I have had the Modus Hoperandi straight out of the can and it was still excellent. I would rather drink our of a can than a bottle. Bottled beer gets skunky (even just a little) which is a major reason to pour it and let the gasses expand and expel some of the skunk. Canned beer though can’t get skunky post canning since the UV cant get to the beer.

If I could only figure out a way to get one of my homebrewed kegs to fit in a handbag :) I would use a growler if I had a few.

      • DigYourOwnHole says:

that was supposed to be a CHEER!
