After ending a two fight losing skid this past February, Dennis Bermudez has come to the conclusion that being too aggressive in fights, was ultimately costing him.
The featherweight contender took on rugged vet, Tatsuya Kawajiri in his last outing, and earned a unanimous decision win. Prior to that, however, Bermudez was taken out by Ricardo Lamas and Jeremy Stephens in consecutive fights. The losses followed seven consecutive wins…
Well, this Saturday at UFC FN 92, Bermudez will take on Rony “Jason”. Recently “The Menace” appeared on “UFC Tonight“, and Bermudez offered these interesting comments (quotes via FOX Sports 1 press release):
“He (Jason) likes to throw highlight reel strikes, knees, spins. I’m just not going to be there. You’re going to see a different Dennis. Some of my weaknesses have been being too aggressive. I’ve got 15 minutes to torture a guy.”
“I’m getting older. I can’t get in those bloodbaths like I used to. I’m trying have longevity in the sport. I’m trying to get better. I’m not just changing my style, but evolving my style.”
There’s no doubt that Bermudez has been involved in some barnburners, which fans love, but those certainly take their toll. In addition, picking up a win can be tricky when you’re throwing down in a wild brawl.
It will be interesting to see how Bermudez approaches “Jason”. Based off these comments, could we see Bermudez put his NCAA, Division 1 wrestling skills in action?
UFC FN 92 will take place in Salt Lake City, Utah.
