It looks as though Anthony Pettis has decided to end his run in the lightweight division, as the former champ has announced he’s planning a move to 145.
“Showtime” recently announced the news via the Instagram post below, and MMA Fighting.com has also confirmed with his manager that he’s dropping to featherweight. According to the report, Pettis hopes to fight next, and at 145, in August.
When last year began, Pettis was riding a five fight winning streak and was the UFC’s lightweight king. But, since he lost the title to Rafael dos Anjos last March, Pettis has dropped consecutive decisions to Eddie Alvarez and Edson Barboza as well.
It will be interesting to see how this goes for Pettis. There’s certainly some all-star bouts waiting for him at 145, including one with Jose Aldo, which was in the works a few years ago. Pettis – Conor McGregor would also be a barn burner no? Or Max Holloway – Pettis? Frankie Edgar – Pettis?
The report also stated that renowned nutritionist Mike Dolce will be helping the 29 year-old Pettis make the drop to 145.
