Ben Rothwell vs. Gilbert Yvel Set for UFC 115 on June 12
With original opponents Mirko “Cro Cop” and Pat Barry set to fight at UFC 115, heavyweights Ben Rothwell and Gilbert Yvel have agreed to meet at the June 12 event in Vancouver, according to MMAjunkie.
Rothwell (30-7), a former IFL standout, made his UFC debut in October, suffering a second-round TKO to rising contender Cain Velasquez, and had been expected to return to action against “Cro Cop” last Saturday at UFC 110, but was forced to withdraw from the bout with a stomach virus and plans for re-scheduling the matchup have apparently been dropped.
Yvel (36-14-1), a PRIDE veteran well-known for his past poor sportsmanship, scored a first-round knockout of Pedro Rizzo last June before debuting in the UFC in January, suffering with a first-round knockout to Junior dos Santos.
UFC 115 has yet to be officially announced, but is expected to be headlined by the third meeting between former light heavyweight champions and Ultimate Fighter 11 coaches Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz.

Both looked terrible in their UFC debuts. Good to see one of them will be getting a win here. Unless we see the mythical draw. That would be quite sad. In all seriousness, it should be a stand-up battle.
This is going to be just a fun battle to see Yvel’s aggression alone should be worth the viewing pleasure, I like this fight alot actually… It just seems fun
What up FR,
I agree dude. Especially because both fighters are coming off a loss, i’m guessing that the gunz will be blazing!
Sort of makes me wonder if this is one of those “winner keeps his job” fights…
can you say “SLUGFEST”!!!!!!!!
I doubt either one of them will lose their contracts after the fight. Usually they’re contracted for 4 or 5 fights, and after that it determined if UFC wants to keep them. So even if their performances aren’t great, they can stay on board as long as the crowd approves(Jardine is a great example). As for the fight itself, I think it will be a great one. Both of these guys are gonna want to stand and throw everything they got. Should be an awesome show that won’t go to decision.
