Ricardo Funch Off UFC 111, Newcomer Greg Soto Fights Matt Riddle on March 27

Ricardo Funch has been forced out of his welterweight bout with Matt Riddle scheduled for UFC 111 for undisclosed reasons, but undefeated newcomer Greg Soto has been tapped to make his UFC debut against Riddle on the preliminary card of the March 27 event in Newark, New Jersey.

Soto’s coach and fellow UFC fighter Kurt Pellegrino, who faces Fabricio Camoes at UFC 111, announced his addition to the card on Wednesday night, while MMAjunkie today reported that he’d be replacing Funch.

Soto improved to 7-0 in his most-recent fight in October, securing a second-round submission of 12-6 Ray Steinebeiss.

Riddle (3-1) made his MMA debut at The Ultimate Fighter 7 Finale in June 2008 with a unanimous decision over fellow TUF 7 castmember Dante Rivera. Following back-to-back victories over Steve Bruno and Dan Cramer, Riddle squared off against Nick Osipczak in November, suffering a third-round TKO.

UFC 111 is headlined by welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre vs. challenger Dan Hardy, and also features Frank Mir vs. Shane Carwin for the interim UFC heavyweight title.
