Barao elected to give featherweight a go, following his second, stoppage defeat to TJ Dillashaw last July. Recently the Brazilian star spoke with MMA Fighting.com, and while discussing his future, Barao stated the following:
“We’re not thinking about moving up or down in the future yet,” said Barao. “I think about this fight only. After this fight, we will decide what to do. At first, our goal is to fight in this division.”
“It can happen, maybe one more fight and I’m close to the bantamweight title already, but like I said, the weight cut was too much and I wasn’t performing like I always did…”
This makes sense. If Barao finds himself out-powered and out-gunned by Stephens on Sunday, he may decide that he wants to give 135 another go (even if the cut is brutal for him). But, if Barao defeats Stephens, who is a top ten ranked featherweight, then things will be rolling for him at 145.
