Shine Fight Promotions, a relative newcomer to the MMA promotion business that has already made a lot of noise, announced Wednesday that it’s highly anticipated third event, “Worlds Collide: Mayorga vs. Thomas,” will be held at the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, North Carolina on May 15.
The evenings main event will feature the controversial former boxing world champion Ricardo Mayorga making his MMA debut against former UFC fighter Din Thomas in a lightweight battle, in a contest that was previously rumored for March. Other fights for the card have not yet been announced, however those details are expected to be announced in the coming week.
Thomas was last in action defeating Dustin Pague via TKO in January extending his winning streak to three, having previously defeated opponents Dustin Pieken and Gabe Lemley. Prior to his most recent winning streak, Thomas was released from the UFC following consecutive losses to Kenny Florian and Josh Neer, despite that stint in the UFC, with three consecutive victories over Rich Clementi, Clay Guida, and Jeremy Stephens.
Mayorga was last in boxing action in September of 2008, where he suffered a 12th round KO at the hands of Shane Mosley, which evened his record since 2005 at 2-2. He compiled a record of 29-7-1 over the course of his boxing career, though most of those bouts took place prior 2004.
