Recently the UFC announced that Tyron Woodley is going scrap welterweight champ Robbie Lawler on July 30th, and the by the sounds of it, Matt Brown isn’t going to be cheering for “The Chosen One”…
The fight comes after Woodley campaigned long and hard for the title shot he was told he’d receive, after Johny Hendricks fell out of their UFC 192 fight in October (due to weight cutting issues). Since Woodley hasn’t fought since January, 2015, however, when he decisioned Kelvin Gastelum, some wondered if he’d receive a title shot.
Well, following Brown’s submission loss to Demia Maia at UFC 198 last weekend, the rugged vet spoke with Mixed Martial Art.com’s Jonathan Shrager. While doing so, Brown made it clear he’s not a fan of Woodley. Here is some of what he had to say (quotes via MMA Fighting.com):
“[Tyron] Woodley, he’s a bitch. I just don’t like him anyway. I’d fight him in the f**king street for free.”
“You go all the way back, he turned down fights. I know he turned down Hector Lombard saying, ‘he’s a teammate’ and then Hector’s like, ‘we’re not teammates, f*ck you, I’ll fight you.’ So that’s a clear bitch move.
“And then sitting out for a year and a half begging for a title shot, coming over a win over – what’s Gastelum? Probably fourteen or fifteen [in the rankings] – a very unimpressive win over a sick Gastellum. He had the flu, right. Missed weight by ten pounds.”
Brown also relayed that he started disliking Woodley after he began citing his win over Carlos Condit. The latter tore his ACL during the bout, and it was stopped in the second round. “The Immortal” is also predicting Lawler will KO Woodley, when they throw down at UFC 201.
Depending on how things play out in the UFC’s welterweight division, perhaps Brown and Woodley will be booked to battle at some juncture.
UFC 201 will take place in Atlanta, Georgia.
