For months now, Michael Bisping has repeatedly stated he wants another crack at Luke Rockhold, and now the rugged middleweight has received just that…
After it was announced on Tuesday that Chris Weidman will no longer face Rockhold at UFC 199, the promotion has confirmed that Bisping has been tapped for the June 4th, title fight. UFC President Dana White initially announced the news on ESPN SportsCenter.
According to a follow up report from MMA Fighting.com, White also confirmed that “Jacare” Souza injured his meniscus while taking out Vitor Belfort at UFC 198. Thus, this is why Souza was not booked for the bout.
Rockhold faced Bisping in November, 2014, and he submitted the veteran in the second round. Most recently in February, Bisping worked his way to a UD win over Anderson Silva. Rockhold will be defending the belt for the first time since he stopped Weidman in December to become champ.
Since news of Weidman’s withdrawal, the former champ has reported he’s been sidelined by a herniated disc in his neck.
There you go. Can Bisping pull off the upset?
UFC 199 will take place at the Forum in Inglewood, California.
