If you’ve been anxiously awaiting Luke Rockhold – Chris Weidman II, then today is not your day. It’s certainly not a good one for Weidman either.
According to reports, after an initial tweet from Talk MMA, Weidman has been forced to pull out of his June 4th rematch with Rockhold due to injury. The two were scheduled to fight in the main event of UFC 199, which will take place in Inglewood, California.
Other outlets have also confirmed with sources that Weidman has pulled out of the highly anticipated bout, but no details regarding the injury have been reported yet. As this is being written, the UFC hasn’t announced anything either, but they’re reportedly looking for a replacement.
Rockhold and Weidman fought for the first time at UFC 194 in December, and the latter was stopped in round four.
So, could “Jacare” Souza or say Michael Bisping be fighting for the belt in a few weeks? Mr. Bisping has already tweeted out the following:
— michael (@bisping) May 17, 2016
The outspoken fighter is coming off a decision win over Anderson Silva in February, and he’s been campaigning for a rematch with Rockhold. The champion submitted Bisping in 2014.
Then, of course, there’s “Jacare”, who stormed through Vitor Belfort last weekend at UFC 198. Rockhold decisioned him back in 2011. But, it’s unclear if Souza emerged from his last bout injury free, or if he’s up for that quick of a turn around fight.
We should find out soon enough.
