The ongoing feud between UFC heavyweight contender and former champion Frank Mir and current title-holder Brock Lesnar continues, as Mir, who fights Shane Carwin next month at UFC 111 for a rubber match against the returning Lesnar, said in a recent interview with Mark Madden on WXDX radio that he wants to break Lesnar’s neck and make him the first person to die in the Octagon:
“I learned a long time ago that you’ll have fans that love you and fans that hate you, so I’d rather go ahead and say what’s on my mind than to sit there and come up with some [politically correct] ‘The guy is a great fighter and I have a lot of respect for him.’ If I don’t mean it, why is it even coming out of my mouth?
“I want to fight Lesnar. I hate who he is as a person. I want to break his neck in the ring. I want him to be the first person that dies due to Octagon-related injuries. That’s what’s going through my mind.”
While most of the interview centered on his grudge with Lesnar, Mir said he’s focused on a ‘tough’ interim title showdown with Carwin first:
“Carwin’s a tough guy. He poses a lot of threats. A lot of people think I’m downplaying Lesnar by saying Carwin’s a better version, but it’s easy: Lesnar hasn’t knocked anybody out in the Octagon. No one’s really worried about his standup. … Carwin walks around at 280 pounds. He’s a Division II wrestler and a better wrestler than I am. He poses the same threats as Brock does as far as wrestling, but Carwin’s knocked out several people now. No one has made it past the first round with this guy, that’s why I think he’s a better version. He’s a very heavy hitter.”
