Since Ronda Rousey and Cris “Cyborg” Justino have exchanged plenty of verbal shots in recent months, a lot of folks were expecting the latter to call “Rowdy” out at UFC 198. But, following “Cyborg’s” first round, stoppage win over Leslie Smith, she was all quiet on the Rousey front. Why is that?
Well, Justino was asked that very question after her successful UFC debut, and here is what she had to say (quote via MMA Fighting.com):
“I believe that it was my moment, tonight was my moment and it was historic,” Justino said. “I never thought I’d be sitting here tonight. So take a lot of pictures. I never thought I’d be here after everything that I went through. It was a historic moment for me. Talking about [Rousey] is not something…it’s something people are going to talk about, but I let my fans decide who my opponent will be and I just be ready.”
Fair enough. You have to wonder, however, would Justino taken the same approached if Rousey was still the bantamweight champ? It will be interesting to see what comes next for “Cyborg”. Will she back in Invicta FC for a featherweight title defense? Or in the UFC for another catch-weight scrap?
UFC 198 went down in Curitiba, Brazil.
