UFC 198: Stipe Miocic Outlines Keys to Championship Win

The UFC’s heavyweight championship has changed hands once again, following Stipe Miocic’s ‘that just happened’ KO win over Fabricio Werdum.

Both men were exchanging kicks early on, and then Miocic finished the deal, by bombing out Werdum with a right hand. UFC 198’s headliner didn’t last three minutes.

Following his championship victory, here is some of what Miocic had to say, while discussing his strategy for the fight (quote via FOX Sports 1 press release):

“I was working on the checks all camp. He kicks hard. I hit him with the first right hand, and I thought I hurt him and he started chasing me and knew I was going to get it.”

“No,” said Miocic, when asked if he thinks Werdum wasn’t properly prepared. “I thought he was a lot quicker than I expected. He was throwing some combinations.”

There you have it. Unless something crazy goes down at UFC 200 when Cain Velasquez faces Travis Browne, one would think Miocic – Alistair Overeem is next.
