Joe Rogan Says Conor McGregor Lost “Pissing Contest” With UFC

Although Joe Rogan understands why Conor McGregor wouldn’t commit to the promotional schedule that was planned for UFC 200, he also believes the Irish star lost a “pissing contest” with his employers.

Yes, the July 9th card will no longer feature McGregor – Nate Diaz II, for the reasons outlined above. After the UFC pulled the rematch from the card, McGregor pressured the promotion to backtrack, but that didn’t happen. As of now, we don’t know when the featherweight champ will fight again, although recently Dana White relayed he’s down for McGregor – Diaz II taking place at UFC 202.

Recently Rogan appeared on the Dan Le Batard Show, and of course, he was asked to weigh-in on the whole McGregor – UFC beef. Here is some of what the accomplished martial artist and comedian had to say (quote via MMA Fighting.com):

“Conor is not dumb,” Rogan said. “They had a pissing contest and Conor lost. It’s really that simple. He just decided that he was going to put his foot down and tell the UFC he wasn’t doing any media obligations and the UFC said, ‘Well, that’s not how it works.'”

“You don’t win those things against the UFC,” Rogan added. “They don’t want to be in a contest with you…They’re there to promote fights. That’s what they do. And when you’re promoting a fight, you have to do your media obligations. That’s their position and I understand their position. And honestly, I understand his position, too. He doesn’t want to have to do media, he just wants to prepare for a big fight and he thinks he’s a big enough star that the fight is gonna sell itself…”

It’s pretty difficult to see it any other way – based off what we know. The UFC hasn’t backed off and reinstated McGregor for July 9th.

It’s possible, however, that perhaps moving forward the promotion will book McGregor for less promotional obligations, in an effort to keep one of their biggest stars happy. It’s also looking like, as noted above, that McGregor will get the rematch with Diaz he’s been campaigning for. Just not at UFC 200.

The featherweight champ was submitted by Diaz in a welterweight fight at UFC 196 in March.
