Nothing been announced, in terms of when and who Conor McGregor will fight next, but Dana White likes the sounds of McGregor – Nate Diaz II at UFC 202.
Since McGregor was axed from UFC 200, for not agreeing to do all of the media obligations required, he’s continued to campaign for a rematch with Diaz. The two met in March and Diaz won the welterweight scrap via submission.
White has repeatedly said the bout will not take place on July 9th, and while appearing on The Dan Patrick show recently, he was asked about booking the fight for UFC 202 (in August). Here’s what the UFC boss man had to say (quote via MMA Fighting.com):
“Sounds like a good idea to me.”
Indeed it does. White also reported that he’s been talking with McGregor daily, and that he’s meeting with the featherweight champ soon.
“We’re gonna have dinner next week. Our relationship is great. We’re gonna put the little speed bump in the road behind us and move forward. Everything is great.”
So, based off this, it looks like McGregor – Diaz II could happen after all. There’s been some speculation that McGregor’s next bout would be at 145, versus the winner of Jose Aldo – Frankie Edgar II (since it hasn’t been clear when his issues with the UFC would be resolved).
UFC 200 is going down at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. In the new main event, light-heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier will take on rival, Jon Jones. Aldo-Edgar II will take place that same night.
