UFC FN 87: Main Card Play-By-Play And Results

Now that the preliminary bouts are in the books for UFC Fight Night 87, it’s time to move to the main card. In the headliner, Alistair Overeem will battle fellow heavyweight contender and teammate, Andrei Arlovski.

Heather Jo Clark vs. Karolina Kowalkiewicz

Round 1: Clark plants a right over hand, and then a left hook not long after. Kowalkiewicz fires in a right and clinches up briefly. Leg kicks from both. They clinch briefly again. Another over hand right from Clark. Clark sticks a right hand again. Kowalkiewicz brings a hard elbow. Clark pushes Kowalkiewicz to the cage. Latter plants a hard right hand on the break. Kowalkiewicz comes with a high kick that’s blocked. Nice spinning back kick to the body from Kowalkiewicz. Clark pushes her to the cage again. Round ends.

Round 2: Kowalkiewicz comes out aggressively. Kowalkiewicz with some nice combos. Clark clinches up and momentarily takes Kowalkiewicz to the floor.  Both women wing hard punches. Clark plants a right but eats a couple of counters. They exchange punches in the pocket. Clark changes levels but can’t get the TD. Kowalkiewicz with some hard knees and elbows from the clinch. Wow. More hard shots from Kowalkiewicz. Spinning elbow from Kowalkiewicz grazes Clark. Action spills to the mat and Kowalkiewicz is looking for an armbar. Round ends.

Round 3: Kowalkiewicz plants a hard a 1-2. They trade elbows in the clinch. Kowalkiewicz spins again and then fires in some hard punches. More big shots are thrown. Clark pushes Kowalkiewicz to the cage. Latter digs Clark to the body with a knee. They break. Kowalkiewicz lands a couple more big punches. Clark eats several more shots and looks for a TD. Kowalkiewicz defends. Kowalkiewicz lands more punches. Clark is showing a ton of heart in this fight. Wow. They’re just chucking shots at each other and the final horn goes.

Francimar Barroso vs. Nikita Krylov

Round 1: Krylov comes with a front kick. Barroso starts looking for a TD after Krylov fires in some big punches. They’re clinched up against the cage. Krylov is kneeing Barroso to the legs. Clinch work continues. Krylov throws a big right but eats a counter after they break. Nice right hand from Barroso. Krylov charges in behind a flurry of punches. Barroso changes levels again but can’t get the TD. Barroso lands a nice uppercut. Krylov with another flurry before the round ends.

Round 2: Wow, Krylov comes charging out and fires in some big kicks and punches. They clinch up against the cage. Barroso finally gets a TD but Krylov sweeps him. Latter is firing down shots but eats a big up-kick. Krylov headbutts Barroso to the body, which is not allowed, and ref gives him a warning. Fight should have been stood up as a result of the foul. Barroso goes for an omoplata but can’t finish. Now Barroso swings for an armbar Krylov defends. Latter scrambles to the back of Barroso and locks in a rear-naked-choke. Barroso taps. Wow. Another finish for Krylov.

Anna Elmose  vs. Germaine de Randamie

Round 1: de Randamie fires in a big shot that grazes Elmose. They clinch up and Elmose fires in some hard punches to the body. Elmose is working hard for a TD but de Randamie is defending. They continue to work from the clinch. De Randamie fires in a big knee to the body. Elmose shoots in but de Randamie defends. De Randamie sticks a couple of hard jabs. Wow. Hard right from de Randamie. Latter has the Muay Thai plum and is firing in hard knees to the body.Wow. Another one from de Randamie and Elmose goes down. That’s it.

Gunnar Nelson vs. Albert Tumenov

Round 1: Nelson lands a left hand and then a follow up right. Hard leg kick from Tumenov. Another lead hook from Nelson lands. Tumenov cracks Nelson to the body with a kick. Nelson plants a counter right. Side kick from Nelson. Latter fires in a body kick. Tumenov tags Nelson with a right. Nelson charges in and scores the TD. Nelson moves into mount. Elbow from Nelson. Another elbow from Nelson. Latter misses with an elbow and Tumenov gets back to his feet. Tumenov is cut by his left eye. Wow. Tumenov fires in a couple of big punches. Round ends.

Round 2: Tumenov chucks another leg kick. Nelson plants a left.  Another left from Nelson lands. Nelson changes levels and gets the TD. Latter moves into sidemount. Now Nelson moves into mount and Tumenov gives up his back. Nelson is looking for a choke. Wow. Nelson starts cranking and Tumenov taps. What a performance.

Antonio Silva vs. Stefan Struve

Round 1: Silva comes charges out and eats a hard punch. Struve cracks him a knee and Silva’s looking for a TD. Wow. Struve is pounding away with elbows and “Bigfoot” isn’t moving. The fight’s stopped. Crazy.

Silva appears to be protesting the stoppage but he was just taking elbow after elbow.

Andrei Arlovski vs. Alistair Overeem

Round 1: Arlovski flurries in with some big, big shots. Wow. Overeem covers up and moves away from the cage. Overeem changes levels but gets pushed to the cage. Overeem lands a knee from the clinch and they break. Overeem leads with a left and attempts a knee from the clinch. Overeem blasts Arlovski to the body with a kick. Overeem with a leg kick. Latter scores a nice trip. Overeem is working from the top. Round ends.

Round 2: Arlovski misses with an overhand right. Overeem charges in and lands a left. Arlovski returns fire. Overeem comes with a jumping kick and then a left hand that floors Arlovski. Crazy. After follow up punches from Overeem the fight’s called. Big win for Overeem.
