For folks who thought we’d heard the last from Conor McGregor, in terms of not fighting at UFC 200, well, evidently they were way off.
Over the last few days, McGregor hadn’t said much, as the UFC continued to move forward with promoting UFC 200. Since McGregor informed the promotion he would not attend all the media events they had planned for the July 9th card, the UFC axed his rematch with Nate Diaz and booked Daniel Cormier – Jon Jones II instead. In addition, Dana White has insisted that McGregor will not fight at UFC 200, and that the earliest the Irish could be booked for a bout is UFC 201 in August.
Well, it certainly seems like McGregor didn’t get, or accept, the memo, as recently the featherweight champ posted this on Instagram:
So there you go. Now, it could be that McGregor realizes at this point he won’t fight Diaz on July 9th, and is instead, just hoping to salvage a rematch with the latter. McGregor is reportedly obsessed with fighting Diaz again and avenging his defeat (yes, there are those who believe all this has been orchestrated by McGregor as a means to avoid fighting Diaz…seems unlikely no?).
In other words, by keeping the pressure on the UFC, then perhaps they’ll agree to have him fight Diaz in say August. Rather than insist he fight at 145 next. It’s certainly been a fascinating turn of events, when you consider not long ago McGregor was referring to Frank Fertitta as “Uncle Frank”…
