A previously-reported matchup between heavyweight veterans and former UFC fighters Tim Sylvia and Wes Sims, slated to headline Adrenaline MMA 5 on March 20 in Youngstown, Ohio, will not take place as scheduled, as the Ohio Athletic Commission recently ruled the bout “non-competitive,” according to MMAjunkie.
The decision was made in the wake of Sims’ first-round TKO loss to Bobby Lashley at “Strikeforce: Miami” in January and was reportedly reached “after comparing [Sims’ and Sylvia’s] records and the opponents both fighters had faced.”
The former UFC heavyweight title-holder Sylvia knocked out The Ultimate Fighter 10 castmember Sims in the opening round of their first meeting in 2004.
Sylvia (25-6) bounced back from three-straight losses, including an embarassing 8-second KO to Ray Mercer, with a first-round TKO of Jason Riley in Adrenaline last September, while Sims’ loss to Lashley snapped a three-fight win streak.
Both fighters are still expected to compete at Adrenaline 5, with Sylvia expected to fight Branden Lee Hinkle while Sims is slotted to face Kerry Schall.
