Holly Holm Believes UFC Could Still be Looking at Booking Rematch With Ronda Rousey

Since Holly Holm is no longer the UFC’s bantamweight champ, a lot of folks have ruled out the possibility of her fighting Ronda Rousey next, but the decorated striker doesn’t see it that way at all.

Leading into UFC 196, the consensus was that Holm would beat Miesha Tate, and then go on to rematch Rousey later this year. Since Holm was the first and only woman to defeat Rousey in the cage, it was widely expected to be the biggest fight in MMA history.

But, as we all know, Tate choked Holm out, and is scheduled to fight Amanda Nunes at UFC 200. As a result, a new narrative has been making the rounds that if Tate wins, she’ll face Rousey for a third time before 2016 is out.

Well, others have considered the possibility that the UFC might be looking at having Holm fight Rousey next, despite the fact she’s no longer the champ. On the latest episode of “The MMA Hour”, Holm was asked about that theory, and here is what she had to say (quote via MMA Fighting.com):

“It’s very possible,” Holm said. “I don’t know what their real thinking is, but they’re obviously a successful business for a reason. They’re a successful promotion. They usually have their reasons behind everything.”

“I’ll be ready either way,” Holm added. “If I rematch with Ronda, I’m gonna train my butt off. If I rematch with Tate, I’m gonna train my butt off. If they give me one of the other top girls in the meantime, I’m gonna train my butt off.”

Ultimately, this is likely up to Rousey. Since she is one of the biggest names in combat sports, if she tells the UFC she’d rather have another crack at Holm, instead of the title, they’ll likely grant her wish. After all, even though Holm is no longer holding the belt, it would still be a ridiculously massive fight.
