Georges St-Pierre’s comeback isn’t official quite yet, but there plenty of signs indicating that the former welterweight champ could be headed back to the UFC, and soon.
If you’re a big time, MMA fan, then you know that in recent months there’s been of talk about GSP’s return to the Octagon. After all, not only has St-Pierre been training again, his head coach Firas Zahabi believes that the Canadian star can’t walk away from the game quite yet. Boxing coach, Freddie Roach, has also reported that St-Pierre plans to hold a test training camp, and GSP himself has said he has the itch to fight again. Plus, UFC 200 will go down on July 9th…
“I’m on good terms with the UFC – we’re talking,” St-Pierre said. “Everything is possible, but I don’t know right now. I can’t tell you everything. I have to keep some secrets.”
Now sure, we’ve been down this road before since GSP vacated the title in 2013, and nothing ever happened. But it truly does appear like things are in play to have the Tristar fighter return to the cage. But, since GSP is a huge star, coming to an agreement on a bout isn’t so easy. Further, it’s been reported that the Reebok sponsorship deal is one of the hurdles they’re trying to navigate in negotiations.
If GSP does come back, and does so at UFC 200, how huge will that event be?
