Rothwell landed some heavy shots during the fight, and kept coming throughout the bout, but he had no answers for the striking of dos Santos. The former champ’s jab, overhand right and footwork ruled the day, and dos Santos was handed the fight by a 50-45, 50-45, 50-45 margin.
The win returned JDS to the win column, after he was stopped by Alistair Overeem in December. Rothwell had won four straight fights heading into the bout.
In the co-main event, Gabriel Gonzaga was unable to keep Derrick Lewis on the mat, and ultimately that proved to be his undoing. Gonzaga took Lewis to the ground not long into the fight, but the latter worked his way up-and-out from the noted grappler. Shortly after, Lewis ended Gonzaga’s night with a vicious combo of punches.
