UFC 113: Machida vs. Shogun 2,” the UFC’s long-rumored event slated for May 8 in Montreal and headlined by the anticipated rematch between light heavyweight champ Lyoto Machida and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, is now official:

At UFC 104 last October, UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida and challenger Mauricio “Shogun” Rua engaged in a five round war that divided the mixed martial arts world when the unanimous decision verdict was rendered in Machida’s favor.

On Saturday, May 8, these two warriors will have a chance to do it again and erase any doubt as to who is the best 205-pound fighter in the world, and both are vowing to take matters out of the judges’ hands and into their own when The Ultimate Fighting Championship heads back to Montreal for UFC 113: Machida vs. Shogun 2, live from the Bell Centre and only on Pay-Per-View.

“The first fight between Machida and Shogun was very controversial, I think fans are very excited to see them fight again and find out who the best light heavyweight in the world is,” said UFC President Dana White.

Machida wins this ne by knockout.Machida learned what its like to actually be threaten in the octogon in their fist bout, and now i believe he will come in a better fighter.

    • bigj93 says:

agreed, machida and his camp are too smart for him to “lose” against shogun the way he did in their 1st bout, plus i dont see shogun being able to “beat” machida any other way than the way he fought at 104. really unfortunate situation for shogun when u think about it but at least he gets another shot and he has solved the machida puzzle for now.

    • cesar says:

i dont think he was threatend, silly lol… machida knew what a battle it was going to be… machida is the better warrior, of course shogun is no joke… they were just feeling each other out

  • Kable9405 says:

sorry meant to say octagon XD

  • Rosie Perez says:

im psyched. hopefully somebody finishes the fight and puts an end to the who beat who in their first matchup.

  • William Song says:

I’m voting for Lyoto Machida! GO KARATE!

  • Dr.Doom says:

The only change in rua’s plan will be to take machida down in the 3rd round and tire him out for a 4th round KO . The kicks will be coming for the first 2 rounds to takeout the legs setting up the GnP in the 3rd, a tired machida slumps against the cage whithered by the punches/knees of rua ending the fight .

    …… I also read minds …… hahaha

    • Kable9405 says:

lol by the way you are explaining the fight it seems to me that you see Machida standing in front of Rua with out doing anything for the whole fighgt. How many times did Shogun put Machida on his back in the first fight?? umm none, and you are predicting not a TKO but a “KO” i dont think so my friend. If anybody has the power to maybe beat Machida by TKO is Anderson and no one else(at the moment). To all the Machida haters im sorry but the Dragon is not going anywhere anytime soon :)

      • JENKINS! says:

“If anybody has the power to maybe beat Machida by TKO is Anderson and no one else(at the moment). ”

        Really? You seriously think so?
Idk man, Shogun has some serious power. Most people underestimated him going into the first fight…and look what happened. He won the fight IMO. He put on one hell of a performance none the less.

Rampage and Rashad both have some sick KO power. I could see both of them knocking out Machida if they landed one of their huge hooks or uppercuts.
Anderson would be an excellent matchup for Machida but lets not get into that shall we?
Lil Nog also has great striking and some serious power in his hands. Too bad he and Anderson both train with Lyoto.
        Oh welllll

      • Dr.Doom says:

I dont see him (machida) standing still , but his defense will be based against the leg shots and it will possibly open up a large hole for rua to time a later round knee to the chin . It will be mostly standup for the first 2 then a small rest in round 3 via GnP , then a slick combo followed by a knee in against the fence puts him away .Rua wont want to make it up to the judges this time even at the risk of getting KO’d himself .

  • kevguy201 says:

i wonder what happens if this is a close fight and it goes to the judges if the fact shogun got screwed will pop into there heads

  • cj00 says:

Anyone think they will add one more big fight for the main card??? it does look every entertaining so far but i just hope for 1 more BIG fight

id love to see thiago silva vs’s maybe rich franklin??? franklin was talkin about makin a return around may, and its been long enough for silva…

any other ideas?? names or fights or does evenyone think this is gonna be it for the “BIG” names?

  • GarRule says:

Too bad “The Irish Hand Grenade” has been relugated to the Prelims.

  • JK says:

Shogun via TKO in his best performance inside the octagon

  • Bill says:

Lyoto will end up focusing on the body shots this time around. The 1st time, all his punches were looking for the knockout and Rua ate some pretty stiff punches and knees in the first meeting. If Lyoto takes it to the body like Rua did, Machida wins by decision again.

  • skdrcr says:

I think Machida will be ready for the leg kicks this time and
end up catching one like silva did to irvin.

Either way, should be another great fight!

  • A says:

Everyone is looking at the “shogun won” picture and ignoring everything else. First off i have to say, I have never seen shogun look so good or machida look so bad. I think machida did what many fighters who amass impressive win streaks and make top p4p fighters like rashad evans look like they shouldn’t even be in the same organization: he got to comfortable and confident and felt he could not bet touched. At the same time shogun trained his ass off like i suspect he never had before and really stuck it to the dragon. That being said look at shogun’s octagon record:

First fight: loses via rnc to forest griffin who is not that great of a fighter in the first place

Second fight: pulls a tko out of his ass against coleman who almost tko’d him twice before that. And everyone knows colemans fighting career is done

third fight: was evenly striking with the PAST HIS PRIME chuck liddell. He got taken down by the PHP chuck liddell. Then a leaping left hook floors the iceman due to his suspect chin.

Fourth Fight: the one in question. many say he won it but he in fact did not. machida without a doubt took the worse beating that night but he did not lose by any means. In the first three rounds every leg kick was met with a counter straight right which score higher than leg kicks.

Rua does not have an impressive record in the octagon by any means. I will admit i was impressed with his performance against machida but this rematch will not favor him. Machida will come in focused, fully aware of what rua brings to the table, and with a whole new strategy that will earn him the victory.

    • Brent says:

So A i dont know what fight you saw, but Most of the world (i think its was like 78%) thought that Shogun won the fight. So to say that Machida won without a shadow of a doubt is just factually wrong.

Second You may have not been impressed with Shogun in the Octogon but you should keep in mind that he was coming off two torn ACL’s when he came to the UFC. I dont know any Athlete who come back to get a title shot (or go the the Championships depending on the sport) after two torn ACL’s.

Lastly, If you have to Question Shogun, just look at his proformance in a organization called Pride and claim that hes not a top fighter.

I will Agree with you that Rashad did look bad, but if Rashad remembers that he is a wrestler then i dont see Machida winning a rematch with him.
