Jon Jones recently reported that he still wants to thrown at UFC 197, even though Daniel Cormier has withdrawn, and the promotion has answered his wish…
The UFC has announced that Ovince Saint Preux has agreed to step up on short notice and fight Jones at the April 23rd event. Not only that, but the bout will be for the interim light-heavyweight title.
OSP (19-7) will be looking to build on the decision win he scored over “Feijao” Cavalcante in February. The explosive fighter is 3-2 in his last 5 bouts, and is ranked #6 at 205.
Jones (21-1), as you surely know, will be fighting for the first time since he decisioned “DC” in January, 2015.
As far as Cormier, the champ reportedly has an injury to the interosseous membrane in his left leg.
So, there you go. Sure, Jones will be a favorite to win, but OSP is ridiculously unorthodox and dangerous. It could make for an interesting scrap.
