If you were one of the many folks who said Cris “Cyborg” will never fight for the UFC, well, it’s looking like that not’s going to be the case…
Yes, the UFC has announced that “Cyborg” will face Leslie Smith on May 14th at UFC 198. The fight will not be fought at 145, the weight that “Cyborg” is Invicta FC’s champ, but at 140. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, as “Cyborg” has said in recent weeks that she doesn’t plan to attempt cutting to 135 any longer.
The Brazilian fighter is coming off a first round, KO win over Daria Ibragimova in January at Invicta FC 15.
Smith fought on March 19th at UFC Fight Night 85, and earned a decision win over bantamweight Rin Nakai.
So, it’s going to be really interesting to see how this all plays out. Could the UFC be considering a women’s featherweight division? If “Cyborg” scores a big win at UFC 198? Or will she just be brought in time-to-time for some catch-weight fights?
UFC 198 will be hosted by the Arena da Baixada in Curitiba, Brazil, and will feature other Brazilian stars like Fabricio Werdum, Anderson Silva,Vitor Belfort, “Jacare” Souza and Demian Maia among others.
