Although TJ Dillashaw and Urijah Faber have exchanged verbal shots since he left Team Alpha Male, he says he’ll be cheering for his former buddy and teammate when he throws down with Dominick Cruz.
For several months now, Dillashaw and Faber have sparred through the media, since the former bantamweight champ decided to head out to Colorado for his training camps. The decision prompted Faber to ban Dillashaw from training with TAM, Faber’s feud with Duane Ludwig kicked off again, and yadda, yadda, yadda, he’s fighting Cruz on June 4th. Dillashaw has also said that he’s “pretty pissed” about the latter.
Well, despite all this, Dillashaw admits that he’ll be routing for his ex-training partner at UFC 199. On a recent edition of “The MMA Hour”, Dillashaw stated (quote via MMA Fighting.com):
“I have to be happy for Urijah,” Dillashaw said. “I had a friendship with the guy, it’s a cool story if he goes out and beats [Cruz] and finally gets his belt in like his eighth title shot or something like that, it would be a cool way for him to finish his career in the UFC. So I’m going to root for him, even through all this drama going on, this bullcrap that got blown out of the water that went on between me and him. I still hope he wins the fight, I like him a lot more than I like Cruz. Cruz is not very respectful and kind of a dick.”
Ya. Considering the trash talk Cruz was slinging around prior to their fight in January, it’s not shocking to hear that Dillashaw isn’t a fan of the renowned fighter. It’s also not surprising to see that although Dillashaw is cheering for Faber, he also took a couple digs at the latter as well. Dillashaw also went on to say, however, that Cruz will defeat Faber “for sure.”
The upcoming bout will mark the third time Cruz and Faber have fought. The bantamweights hold win each over the other.
