Conor McGregor Would “Love to Get” Rematch With Nate Diaz

All signs seem to indicate that Conor McGregor is going to defend the featherweight title in his next outing, but according to the champ, he’s still hoping to rematch Nate Diaz at some juncture.

McGregor is not far removed from his submission loss to Diaz at UFC 196, which went down on March 5th. The Irish star was winning the welterweight bout, but Diaz hurt McGregor in round two, and ended the fight with a rear-naked-choke. To say the victory rocked the MMA world is putting it mildly…

Immediately after the fight, McGregor said he plans to defend the featherweight belt next, and that appears to be what the UFC is thinking too. But, recently McGregor was followed by TMZ cameras, and he did have this to say about fighting Diaz again (quote via Bloody Elbow.com):

“I think I’d like to see that, yea?” McGregor said. “I mean, it’s one that interests me, most certainly. You know, when I look at the fight I was winning the fight. I won the first round and a half, I feel. I’d love to get that one back. We’ll see how it goes. Money talks. Life is good.”

Now sure, a ton of people would like to see McGregor – Diaz II right away, but don’t start planning your viewing party yet…Doing so would put the 145 title picture on further hold, and chances are the UFC doesn’t want to run the risk of McGregor going 0-2, before he defends the belt again. Now, if McGregor had defeated Diaz, well, we’d probably be getting ready for Robbie Lawler – McGregor this summer…

You never know, perhaps Diaz is now headed for a show down with the welterweight champ. Diaz’s stock has never been higher, and Dana White has expressed an interest in that fight.
