For some time now, there’s been a lot of talk about the possibility of TJ Dillashaw fighting Urijah Faber at some point, but according to Dominick Cruz, the latter’s “too scared” to face his former teammate.
Prior to UFC Fight Night 81, the internet was lit up with stories and discussions about Dillshaw – Faber. Following Dillashaw’s departure from Team Alpha Male, things got pretty heated between him and Faber. So, since they’re not teammates any more, and not on good terms, Dillashaw – Faber seemed like a real possibility.
Well, as you recall, Cruz ended up taking the 135 belt from Dillashaw at the event. Since then, he’s been booked for a rubber match with his long time rival, Mr. Faber. The latter could certainly end up facing Dillashaw still, but recently Cruz had this to say about the subject, at EA Sports’ UFC 2 launch (quote via MMA Fighting.com):
“Faber was too scared to face T.J. — plain and simple,” Cruz said. “And so [Cruz] came back, and being the Cruz he is, beats the guy that Faber was too scared to face. Now Faber has a whole lot to say about Dominick, but Dominick is just gonna wax that ass again.”
“…It’s more about the fans. I’ve had so many questions about that fight over the years even — ‘When are you gonna shut Faber up?'”
Too scared huh? It will be interesting to see what unfolds in the 135 division moving forward. If Cruz defeats Faber on June 4th, will a rematch with Dillashaw come next? Or are they going to book the latter for another bout in the interim? Certainly, if Faber wins, then a fight with Dillashaw makes a ton of sense as well, as that would be huge.
UFC 199 will be hosted by the Forum in Los Angeles, California.
