Since Jones was reinstated by the UFC, he and Cormier have continued to battle via social media. But, if you caught last week’s UFC “Unstoppable” press conference, then you saw the two verbally sparred for minutes. At first, Jones was relatively calm, and wasn’t getting too heated. Cormier, however, proceeded to claim that earlier, his bestest buddy hadn’t exactly been polite.
Well, recently Chi Lewis-Parry appeared on “The MMA Hour”. The heavyweight kickboxer has been training with Cormier at American Kickboxing Academy. During the segment, Lewis-Parry recalled an exchange Cormier and his reps had with Jones, as the two left from doing an interview with Joe Rogan. Clearly, Lewis-Parry didn’t care for the former light-heavyweight champ. Here is just some of what he had to say (quote via MMA Fighting.com).
“As soon as he steps outside, the guy turns into the biggest dick on the planet,” Lewis-Parry said. “Oh my God. Can I use profanity? He is a big, fat, chubby b***h. That guy is an absolute knob. Where I come from, you wouldn’t give him the time of day. Now, my opinion is: zero respect for the guy. He just started smack talking and using stuff that I wouldn’t repeat to Daniel, and we just kind of lost it after. I was just about to get into the car and leave, and he made it personal when he says, ‘yeah, go on, get in the car you big b***h.’
Now, it should be noted, that Jones’ manager, Malki Kawa, also called in to give their side of events. According to Kawa, Jones told Cormier that he had nothing to say to him, but that the champ proceeded to start talking trash…
Whatever the case may be, there’s no doubt that the lead-up to UFC 197 is going to have plenty of popcorn worthy moments. The April 23rd event will go down at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It will also feature flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson taking on Henry Cejudo.
Cormier and Jones battled for the first time in January, 2015, and the latter won the bout via unanimous decision.
