Brock Lesnar Likely to Return at UFC 116 on July 3 in Las Vegas
UFC President Dana White said Thursday that UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar would likely make his anticipated return in July, and MMAjunkie today reported that his return is targeted for UFC 116 on July 3 in Las Vegas
While the event is in the works and expected to take place, a venue for the event has not yet been determined and the UFC has yet to request the date with the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
Lesnar (4-1) hasn’t fought since a successful title defense of Frank Mir last July at UFC 100, as a bout with diverticulitis forced him to withdraw from a November matchup against Shane Carwin and sidelined him until he resumed training in January.
Previously targeted for a May return, Lesnar is expected to face the winner of an interim title bout between Frank Mir and Shane Carwin set for March’s UFC 111, though he could take on the winner of a February matchup between Cain Velasquez and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira should the Mir-Carwin winner be unable to fight in July.

bash mir face again.. be a better fight aganist Cain if he wins and Mir cant go
hope he comes back… i just googled ” diverticulitis ” and damn thats horrid…
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diverticulitis theres the wiki link to it… helps to understand why brock has been out for so long
yea agree i do want to see cain fight but to be honest ill be happy if mir, nog or cain fight lesnar just not carwin.
cant wait to see lesnar back in the octagon.
I will honestly try and make this trip, i have enough time. I don’t think i can miss the return of the true Vanilla Gorilla MANBEARPIG his way back to the Octagon ;)
I was thinking that if 116 drops as expected [and my work schedule doesn't get in the damned way], and some of the frenZied like you consider coming out to the big town for the show, we might make it a “frenZy meet/jcohl style” sort of thing at my house…
:)
That would be pretty sick Jcohl. or maybe we could meet up at a bar or something and pregame before the fight.
Well at first I was hoping he’d fight in May or September and not the heat-stroke-inducing mid-summer of Vegas ’cause I have to be there for his return. But since jcohl’s putting the in-frenZy-vite out there I might dread the weather again, although my pasty Scotish skin may not like it…..
Once I get my mid-year work schedule sorted, I’ll be posting both here and at the forum about specifics.
If I can at all swing it, I’ll let you all know in plenty of time to make travel arrangements…
Be careful, Jcohl…you never know who might show up! Maybe I can get Justin to show up in an Islanders jersey….
If Lesnar is going to fight in July then what is the purpose of having an Interim Heavyweight Champion? They only did it before because it was unknown when Randy Couture would be back in action due to the contract dispute! Or when someone was suspended due to steroids. Knowing Lesnar will be back before this fight happens why is it simply just not a #1 contendership fight?
because ppv posters look better when two fighters have a belt around their waist.
There is also the issue of timing.
If memory serves, when the announcement dropped about the Mir-Carwin Interim title fight, Lesnar’s medical condition wasn’t glass clear, so, y’know…
it doesnt matter to me who fights lesnar as long as they win, i just dont like the way lesnar talks so tough to everyone, he thinks hes the best but we all know that he takes it to the ground an lays on top of people i dont think he could stand up with mir, velasquez, or even dosantos
i wanna see big ass carwin with a ko over him. please no mir lesnars only fought 3 people in the ufc i wanna definately see a new face in their with him.
I’ll watch regaurdless of who he fights, but 5 fights in the ufc and 3 of those with mir potentially.Go carwin!
im a carwin fan… i hope he beats mir, even though mir is a beast !!!
That’s good news! Frank Mir is getting cocky again so it’s time for someone to shut his mouth!
while mir has the skill and finesse, I don’t think he’ll get an easy sub or KO. We haven’t seen enough Carwin to see any holes that his great recovery time can’t fix (like against Gonzaga)
