A lot of people expected to be talking about Conor McGregor fighting for the welterweight title today, but after what went down at UFC 196, obviously that’s not the case.
McGregor threw down with Nate Diaz at 170 pounds last night, and although he punished the latter with some heavy shots, the veteran came back in round two and submitted the Irish star. So what’s the plan now?
Well, after the memorable fight, here’s what Dana White told FOX Sports about McGregor’s short term future (quote via press release):
“I don’t know what Conor’s going to do. It makes all the sense in the world for him to defend the belt now against either Frankie or Jose. We’ll see when he wants to fight again. I love you Frankie, calm down. At the end of the day, I believe if Conor won he would have fought Robbie and might have never gone back.”
White was acknowledging Edgar, who made it clear in the post-fight show that he wants to scrap McGregor next. Will it be Frankie? That seems likely no?
