At Thursday’s pre-UFC 109 press conference in Las Vegas, UFC President Dana White announced that the winner of the “UFC 109: Relentless” co-main event between middleweight contenders Nate Marquardt and Chael Sonnen will get a title shot against the winner of April’s UFC 112 bout between middleweight champion Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort.

White also confirmed that, as previously reported, The Ultimate Fighter 11 coaches and former light heavyweight champions Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz will meet for the third time at UFC 115 on June 12 in Vancouver, while Kimbo Slice vs. Matt Mitrione is set for UFC 113 on May 8 in Montreal.

  • Cobratrooper says:

Nate Marquardt vs Silva gonna be a nice rematch

  • gsueagle says:

well I guess we will see Marquardt vs. Silva/Belfort winner. He is going to destroy Chael Sonnen.

    • Brent says:

Yeah my boy nate is going to bust Tekkan like moves on Sonnens face. Im under the impression that Nate would have a more difficult time, Stylistically agaist Belfort then he would againts Silva

  • Blair says:

nate is gonna beat chael, i hope so but the belfort and silva should be a good one, i hope that we can see belfort/marquardt i think that would be a very good throwdown

  • Rosie Perez says:

i would love to see a new and improved marquardt take on silva he def. deserves it. alot of exciting stuff comin up. the closer 109 gets the more stoked on it im gettin as well.

  • jcohl says:

Lets just all bear in mind before getting too psyched about Marquardt getting a title shot that he’s heard all of this noise before from Dana White about getting a title shot, when he embarrassed Demian Maia, only to get screwed out of his shot because Dana White caved to Ed Soares’ public whining and Silva’s “standoff-ish-ness” on the matter.

Who is to say that Soares won’t sing the same tired song and cry the same crocodile tears the next time Dana tries to sign a Silva-Marquardt fight, assuming both men win their upcoming fights?

For this reason I hope Belfort kicks the living sh!t out of Silva and then goes on to face the Marquardt-Sonnen winner in his first title defense…

  • Junger says:

would sonnen really get the winner of silva/belfort? he is only 3-3 in the ufc if i remember correctly. i guess there isn’t really anyone else more worthy though. you could argue for maia (if he gets past miller this weekend) since he beat sonnen, but he also got embarrassed by marquardt. i say that if sonnen wins and then silva wins, silva’s next fight will have to be at 205. this would allow for some time for another true contender to emerge.

    • jcohl says:

According to Dana White, Chael Sonnen is suddenly one of the top five 185ers on the planet, if you caught the 109 presser streamed here at the frenZy earlier.
That being the case, the argument could be made for a Belfort-Sonnen title fight if both men win their upcoming fights, which many will say is fairly unlikely, considering Marquardt’s and Anderson Silva’s relative positions in the 185 weightclass…

      • Junger says:

yeah how wild would that be if it ended up being sonnen-belfort? talk about a nightmare match-up for dana white and the pay-per-view buys

  • James says:

I just want to know how in the hell Chael Sonnen is remotely close to the #1 contender spot. What has he done to deserve it? Not a whole lot that I can think of.

  • MMAFanatic says:

I hope I’m not the only one dissapointed that Chuck and Tito 3 will be in Vancouver. I can only hope that this is not the main attraction. Dissapointed enough anyway that I will stay home and watch on TV instead of buying tickets.

  • Canuck says:

Ya – that sucks. First time in Vancouver and we get a rerun. UFC better step up with abetted co-main or they will be hearing about it for months

  • jpmm says:

I think if Sonnen beats Marquardt (which he won’t) then the winner of the Bisping/Wandi fight would be more deserving of a shot at the title

    • Harvai says:

not at all, bisping still needs like a fight or two (depending on his dominance in the fights)before he would ever get a title shot and as for wandi, wandi needs to WIN a fight to actually get started on a trail to a title shot, he brings in fans and puts on good fights but he doesnt do enough to take a win

  • Markus J says:

Are you sure about this Dana? Or will you change your mind again and go back on your promises?

    • ckdiesel says:

Thank you and Jcohl for saying this. this is the same reason that the UFC no longer employs a huge draw in Dan Henderson. it almost seems as though if the person he wants to win does so then he gets the shot. im thinking that he wasnt expecting Hendo to KTFO Bisping, as Bisping/Silva would draw a lot of PPV in the UK fanbase. and not to mention that Soares was “calling the shots” saying that Anderson would fight the winner of Marq/Hendo. is that not Joe Silvas job? Both Nate and Hendo were promised a title shot, and Dan was trying to hold him to his word.

  • TDynamite says:

Anderson will walk right through Vitor nobody Vitor has fought is even close to Andersons caliber.

    • Harvai says:

well if you’ve ever watch any of vitors fights you know if he catches you just once its over, so if anderson aint on his top game and gets tagged its probably gonna be the fight right there but anderson is always prepared and jive so you just dont know but im pretty sure silva is not gonna walk right through him like forest

  • GarRule says:

    Dana…no video blog this week????

  • TDynamite says:

Vitor has a record of struggling in big fights tho.

  • GarRule says:

Justin…another bet on tomorrow’s game?? If I lose I’ll come up with something good. I just want to see you with a sweet Isles logo. And the sad look on my avatar’s face is breaking my heart….

  • cj00 says:

rich fraklin or thiago silva for 113?? maybe have them fight each other?? im just hoping for one more big fight in montreal, i cant really complain as it is a nice card already

….. would have been HUGE with rampage/evans … thats gone and i got over that .. then a big tease with forrest/nogueira …

  • george s says:

I’m about tired of these Kimbo Slice talks. He was and will always be nothing more than a novelty item. Yes, he is an awesome brawler but, he has no true place in the UFC. Perhaps he can try out some obscure club. Keep in mind, this is only my opinion. we know what they say about opinions.

    • jcohl says:

I used to think the same thing about Kimbo Slice, until TUF 10 dropped.
The guy seems to be legitimately trying to break out of his YouTube fight club days, and develop into something resembling a true MMA fighter.
And believe me, with the following Slice has, there were easier ways for him to earn his paper than getting worked on the ground day in and day out, and trying to grasp the vagaries of wrestling, BJJ, kickboxing, Thai boxing, cage control, and so on, when all he really wants to do is stand and bang…
