Holm is scheduled to fight Tate this Saturday in Las Vegas, in a bout a couple of months ago, most people weren’t expecting. At the time, the expectation was that the UFC was going to move with Holm-Rousey II, since the first bout was such a major upset, and a rematch will be huge. Rousey, however, wanted more time off, following the KO defeat, and Tate entered the picture.
Well, since Rousey is such a massive star, Holm continues to field questions about facing “Rowdy” again, even though Tate is up next. Holm, however, is saying all the right things as she gets ready to face the perennial contender.
Case in point, following the open workouts for UFC 196 on Wednesday, Holm had this to say about a second fight with Rousey (quote via MMA Junkie.com):
“At this point, I’m not looking past March 5,” Holm said. “That’s as far as my mind will let me go, that’s as far as my heart and my passion will let me to go.
“When I first signed with the UFC, everybody was talking about the title fight with Ronda,” Holm added. “I still had to focus on the fights at hand before I could even get there. And right now, I have Miesha in front of me, so I’m focusing on that.”
Holm certainly seems to be a pretty level headed person huh? Even though she bombed out the biggest name in the game, and has become a big star in her own right, she doesn’t appear to be getting ahead of herself at all.
And that could be a very good thing for Holm’s camp and her fans. Tate might not be as dangerous as Rousey, and isn’t the most explosive 135’er, but she’s ridiculously tough and very well rounded. So, if Holm takes her lightly, she could be in for a long night.
